[BOOK REVIEW] The Ultimate Guide to Content Marketing & Digital PR
The funny thing about books in the digital marketing space is that they become outdated nearly as soon as they’re published. It’s hard to write a current book, not knowing what technologies and tools are coming down the pipeline. But some books — for example, The Ultimate Guide to Content Marketing & Digital PR by Luke Nicholson, Charlie Marchant, and Tim Kitchen — provide long-lasting value by focusing on strategy and tactics rather than the latest and greatest trends in marketing.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. It was right in my wheelhouse: full of actionable advice any small business owner can follow to stand out in a sea of competition. I tend to favor books that teach you how to do something rather than just talk about high-level concepts you can do nothing with.
Who This Book is For
If you have struggled with where to begin in content marketing (and really want to do it on your own), this book will point you in the right direction. It walks you through several key tactics, explaining each thoroughly. Even if you end up hiring someone else to manage your content, reading this book will help you understand what they’re doing on your behalf.
What it Covers
There’s so much to be said about content marketing, from finding topics that your audience will glom onto to creating an ongoing content calendar and guest blogging. This book covers them all, in a manner that is far from overwhelming. Just tackle one chapter at a time and work on mastering that skill before moving on to the next.
The book also discusses working with influential bloggers to get them talking about your brand. Another great strategy! By writing product reviews or other content about you or hosting giveaways of your products, they’re effectively spreading the word about your brand to a wider audience.
One major component of marketing that not enough books address is: why? Why are you doing what you’re doing? What do you hope to achieve? But this book dives into setting goals for your digital marketing right up front. Take heed, because those goals are instrumental to your marketing success.
What really rounds out this book his how accessible its authors are. They include their email addresses, encouraging readers to reach out with questions. And they offer a free expert website review to all readers. You can’t beat that!
